Accessibility
A website everyone can use.
Ptolemy wants every visitor, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or other assistive technology, to be able to read this site and reach us.
The standard we work to
We build and review this site against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium. That is the standard most often used to measure website accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
What we do
- Text descriptions on images that carry information.
- A labeled form, usable with a keyboard alone.
- A “Skip to content” link and a visible focus outline for keyboard users.
- Headings in order, so screen readers can move through each page.
- Pages that work at phone width and when zoomed, without sideways scrolling.
- Motion reduced for visitors who set that preference on their device.
Ongoing work
Accessibility is not a one-time task. We review new pages as we add them and fix problems as we find them. Some content, such as PDF reports, may not yet meet every guideline; we will provide any of it in another format on request.
